Stop Bullying I Pink Shirt Day

Bullying has always been something close to my heart and come February 25th, we all have the opportunity to jump on board and wear pink in support of stopping bullying in any forms- in school, work, on the streets, everywhere and anywhere.

Pink Shirt Day came about when two male students in high school decided to stand against bullying when a Grade 9 student was bullied for wearing pink to school. What they did next was phenomenal, they went to school the next day with bags containing pink shirts and distributed it all around to students. Needless to say, the Grade 9 student who was bullied lit up.

This time around, we can all step in to help out through various ways – some of them listed below! You can be even more proactive and invite coworkers, friends and family to wear pink to show support! Lets spread awareness to this issue and a small gesture can go a long long way! Something as tiny and simple- like a smile, or a compliment, or a hug can do SO MUCH for somebody- in ways that you can’t possibly comprehend.

Growing up, I’ve had my fair share of experiencing bullying. Not physical bullying (thank goodness) but emotional bullying- words can hurt, sometimes much more than physical bullying does. But if I’ve learned anything at all, it’s that to never stay silent about it. And as hard as it gets, to believe that you aren’t what’s said about you, because you’re worth so much more.

You might be thinking to yourself- how on earth does posting pictures of yourself wearing pink or wearing pink on it’s own HELP ANYTHING? Well, it’s all about perception- wearing pink and sharing that on social media (which in today’s age is THE biggest form of communication between our generation), we’re reaching out and showing our support to a larger amount of individuals. When you walk on the street in pink, when you share stories with the #pinkshirtday hashtag, you are making a stand for those who are afraid to speak up. More importantly, we want to make those who can’t feel heard, to know that it gets better and they’re not alone.

Here’s how you can give back and support!
